Assistive Tech.

After sending in my tech cased study and interview, it still amazes me (I'm 27) at how far it has come. More so, the cost than anything. Just looking back at how much of this equipment was, even just a few years ago, makes the classroom that much more accessible. It adds so much more possibility for students, and allows for much more integration for students with needs.

Just like the student mentioned in my interview, that student would have to have so much more done for them if he didn't have the AAC available to him. It's a very simple concept, but changes lives.

Some new stuff at work

So, I know this is not directly related to technology in the classroom (perhaps), but I have started us out in the office of admissions at SMCM with a new technology. I am quite proud of this, mostly because we are on the "cutting" edge and one of the first schools to jump into this new technology. www.formspring.me

Basically it is a site in which people (in our case students) are able to ask questions. Any question they ask is anonymous until I decide to acknowledge and answer the question. It's great for us, because those questions that a lot of students are too embarrassed to ask, now they ask.

I definitely feel like it could be incorporated into the classroom. Perhaps a teacher can use it for students to ask class questions fro home. You get the idea. Check out my page for work here: http://www.formspring.me/smcmadmit
